If you’re a realtime reporter, you know the drill. Arrive early to set up cables.  Set up your computer where the realtime cables dictate. If you’re perched on the edge of a conference table, tough luck.   Wait for attorneys to arrive at the last minute.  Scramble to get their computers connected.  Pray that someone doesn’t trip over a wire or try to walk off with a computer while a cable is still attached.

StenoCast X7 eliminates the realtime cable hassle.

What is the StenoCast X7?

The StenoCast X7 is a wireless serial port hub that attaches to the court, deposition or CART reporter’s computer. As proceedings occur, the reporter writes the spoken word on a steno machine.  The steno machine is connected to computer by serial cable or, preferably, wirelessly by means of the StenoCast X1. The spoken words are translated from the steno language into the language of the speaker instantaneously, referred to as “realtime translation.” The StenoCast X7 then takes that realtime translation from the reporter’s computer and wirelessly transmits it to as many as seven computers. Thus up to seven other computers may receive the reporter’s realtime transcription.

What does the StenoCast X7 cost?

   X7 and 1 USB EzReceiver: $399
   Each additional USB EzReceiver: $99

   “Peace of Mind” Subscription program:
X7 and 1 USB EzReceiver:  $25 per month
Each additional USB EzReceiver: $5 per month

The subscription program includes product support, upgrades, and replacement in case of accidental damage.

What if more than seven people want to receive the wireless realtime feed?

The reporter can connect more than one StenoCast X7. Each additional X7 allows seven more wireless hookups.

What is the range of the StenoCast X7?

The StenoCast X7 is a Class I Bluetooth device, with a range of up to 100 meters (approximately 300 feet).

Does the StenoCast X7 plug into a serial port or a USB port?

Either one.

What about power?

The StenoCast X7 has a built-in lithium battery, like the one in the X1 for your writer.  It recharges completely in about 2 hours. It can then operate for at least 15 hours on one full charge.  The X7 can also draw its power from the USB port of your computer.

What does a receiving computer need to get the wireless realtime feed that the StenoCast X7 is sending out?

An “EzReceiver” that is matched to your specific StenoCast X7 transmitter.

The USB EzReceiver ($99) plugs into a USB port.  It works with computers running Windows 98 2nd Edition, Windows 2000 or Windows XP or Vista. For many computers it’s truly plug and play, and you may not even be asked to insert the driver installation disk!

What prevents an unauthorized person from acquiring the wireless transmission?

The wireless transmission is encrypted.  The USB EzReceiver is matched to the reporter’s specific StenoCast X7 unit and cannot be used with any other transmitter.
